Great pasta and pizza on a Friday night. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is fun.
2. Wait staff is rude. When I went to talk to the kitchen staff about a few items, I encountered lots of eye rolls and sighs. Really surprising and distressing.
This is probably one of the best restaurants in starkville and definitely has the best Italian food for miles and miles. The staff is fun and beautiful. Their singing is amazing. It's really easy to tell that they care about the food there. I'm so happy with my experience there and honestly believe that it has made my life better.
Additionally, my meal was extremely late - I waited about 20 minutes longer than others, and of course the other folks in my party were finished by the time my food arrived, along with some pretty weak excuses. An actual restaurant would have removed that dish from the bill. Along with any food item that the party found unpleasant or unacceptable.
We love to come for brunch on the weekend. They allow pups out in the patio. The food is good and relatively inexpensive. The atmosphere is excellent and the owners frequent the restaurant so you may be greated by them.
Poor service, long wait, rude wait staff. My family visited the wednesday after christmas. The problems:
Good selection of bagels. Good service. Clean restrooms.
PS - the homer below must have never eaten italian before The people in this town deserve better.
Between the length of the wait, the rudeness of the staff and poor quality of the food, I will not be patronizing City Bagel again. I am tired of feeling like I am pissing into the wind every time I eat at this place. I cannot believe the people of Starkville give their money to this place. I feel that the people in this town are probably too nice to hold these folks accountable for indifferent food and poor service.
3. Food is not good. The above might be worth it if the food was any good, but sadly it is not. It's often mediocre at best, and often very poor quality, and lacking in flavor. For instance, at Italian Wednesday (and really, doesn't that clue you in? Right? Shouldn't I know better than to complain about a "Italian Wednesday?") - my daughter had the bolognese. You don't have to go to italy to assume the dish will be a typical bolognese sauce with penne pasta and ground beef. But no, it arrived as some unusual chicken concoction, which of course my daughter wouldn't eat, because she was expecting a typical beef dish. When I asked the staff about this, they said well, we use veal and chicken and beef. Really, okay, that's cool. Weird, but just fine, but shouldn't you put that on the menu? It's like ordering diet coke and getting a mix of coke, mello yellow and orangina. Weird. The other folks in my party were also pretty unsatisfied with their food.
1. Food takes forever. They have a terrible kitchen setup/organization. The wait staff brings you food. There are no stations with a single chef overseeing activities, it seems to be a few individuals doing different things, so the food comes out in a disorganized fashion, with dishes for the same party often arriving 10-20 minutes after other dishes. When they transition from lunch-counter stuff in the afternoon to entrees in the evening, the model creates a huge bottleneck as the kitchen . But I cannot stress enough how long it takes, especially at night, to get you food. It is an unacceptable wait. 45 minutes to an hour or more.
