That being said, I did not live at the back of the highlands and I feel strongly that cowbells should be nuked or moved to 15 minutes outside of Starkville.

Didn't have a problem with the highlands until they told my roommate and I that we could not get a dog because they had just put down new carpet in the house. The lease states pets are prohibited unless approved by the highlands. I get that but nowhere in the lease does it say we can't get a dog because of the new carpet. Especially when they didn't even bother mentioning they had put down new carpet in the first place.

I strongly advise you to shop around before settling in the highlands. This complex is overrated. Nearly every time it rains, the streets are completely flooded, making it dangers to even get to class. Not only do the streets flood but they wash out consistently making many pot holes that are damaging to vehicles. Parking is always an issue. Do not expect to receive any deposits back because they will find a way to charge you. There are many greater options to choose from in Starkville than the Highlands. If the Highlands is your very last resort, choose the bridge off highway 12.

A place can be either bigoted or have an unfair contact, but doing both is just not right!

Over-priced. Terrible infrastructure, with potholes and muddy runoff all over the street. People constantly drive all over the grass, only exacerbating the problem. Narrow streets with cars parked all over, causing you to weave around just to get down the road. Had to contact three different companies just to get the internet connection established. Plenty of rules listed, but none enforced, with people blasting music and screaming at all hours of the night with nothing done, or leaving garbage cans knocked over in the street for days. Exception: they'll gladly enforce any part of the lease that causes you to pay more. Avoid at all costs.

The rental agreement is unfair and would infringe on your rights as a tenant in any other state but Mississippi. You will have to pay rent for days that you're not allowed to occupy the unit - in that you will have to move out on the 20th but pay for the full month. If that 10 days worth of money was used as a cleaning fee, I could understand, but even when you leave the place clean, they will not give you your whole deposit back.

Lived here 2013-14. No rules are enforced besides the ones that involve keeping a deposit or a pet deposit. People will block your driveway, park in the grass, fish in your backyard, and no one even tries to enforce the rules. So many charcoal grills. If you have any sort of job or actually go to school, do not live here. I have to work and go to church Sunday mornings, THEY DO NOT SHUT DOWN PARTIES. I had people practically on my doorstep screaming and playing obnoxious music every weekend. I had to go to campus to study. Terrible organization, work orders never get done. Internet is slow. Was promised fiber optic and that was the only reason I signed here, of course, after I moved in they said they couldn't install it.

The place is called "plantation" - and yes, it is 2015. Who does that? They called it "Highland Gardens" when I viewed the model and I didn't pay attention to the sign when I drove up b/c I was new in town and busy looking at street signs for direction. I didn't notice the racist name until I went to sign the lease and it was too late to look for something less racist. Don't make that mistake.
